worksetting

The new gallery is located on the first floor of the Byram Arcade, Huddersfield. The Arcade features studios and stores featuring emerging fashion designers, a tattoo studio, vintage clothing, a comic store and a café, deli and restaurant.

worksetting will present contemporary art and design projects featuring established and emerging practitioners. The first exhibition a place for everything and everything in its place intends to integrate the new gallery into it’s environment with art and design works that involve materials and concepts not normally associated with either medium, but relate to some of the other retail and creative activities that already exist in the Arcade.

A second exhibition will follow in the autumn featuring furniture and contemporary music. The project acknowledges the towns reputation as a centre for contemporary music, while providing new ways to experience and relate to composition.

The first exhibition features established and emerging artists with works produced from materials and concepts that are not normally associated with contemporary art and design. The exhibition also sets out to propose some works in public locations.

Stefano Bonacci has produced a series of photoworks featuring flower plantings in classical settings. Stars, derived from the Piazza del Campidoglio in Rome, designed by Michelangelo, is conceived as a landscape work for Chatsworth House or a similar environment.

Lawrence Weiner sends a tattoo and while the work is exhibited in the gallery, it can also be purchased at the tattoo studio in the Arcade.

Michelangelo Pistoletto has conceived a new range of breads, each bearing his symbol for The Third Paradise, a symbol to unite the human community. Here the breads will be baked on a daily basis and offered for sale, with the proceeds donated to those hungry in this world.

The exhibition also features Lapsed Quaker Ware, an edition of ceramics from James Turrell together with new works made for the exhibition by Laurence Kavanagh and Thomas Newton.
